Hi Lara,
Love your post! I think I have a list of the perfect ingredients for great reading instruction. Here is a list of the top 10 (12 really because I just couldn't limit myself to 10) runaway food stories that I have used in the past.
Click here for the Top 10 Runaway Food Stories list
Of course there are other great runaway stories like The Runaway Dreidel by Leslea Newman and Stella Louella's Runaway Book by Lisa Campbell Ernst that don't feature edible footloose characters. And if you're doing a gingerbread unit, you might want to check out The Gingerbread Pirates or The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School. But, back to your original question...it sounds like you want to use these books for some great literacy instruction. Don't forget (shameless self-promotion coming up) we have a reading unit at CoreStand that features runaway food stories including my all-time favorite, The Gingerbread Girl by Lisa Campbell Ernst.
Hope this helps you "cook" up some reading fun!
Frances

Welcome to our blog!
Hey Lara,
So here we are beginning our blog and it's a bit overwhelming. I'm wondering how often we should chat back and forth here for folks to read? What do you think? Also, I am guessing that folks might want to know more about who we are and what kinds of posts they can expect from us.
Your thoughts?
Hey Fran,
This is so exciting! Yet another professional endeavor to broaden our horizons. I think we can manage at least a post or two every week to start us off. I would love to share our thinking and get feedback about many educational topics. I am always interested in the new common core standards, writing, differentiation and any thing anti-bias related. And, Fran you will of course be our resident book/author guru -- supplying me and our followers with THE perfect title for any lesson.
